Katoria (Banka): A digital library, among the first in Bihar, opened its doors in Banka’s Katoria on Thursday.

Abhilasha Thakur, an international management consultant in Delhi, who is originally from Banka district, is the brains behind the library which will also include Urdu publications.

“The idea of establishing this library came to me when I was here sometime ago to launch welfare schemes under the Pradhan Mantri Nai Manzil Yojana. I realised there was a need for a digital library along with an Urdu library, so I decided to construct one,” she said at the opening of the library on NGO Mukti Niketan’s campus.

The Urdu wing of the library is the first dedicated one in the region after Independence and only the second in Bihar after the Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library in Patna.

Abhilasha also announced an Rs 25,000 scholarship for meritorious students.
