Pradip Kumar Hembrom, a tribal youth from Maoist-hit Hirantand village of Belhar block in Banka district is on cloud nine. After becoming the first graduate from his village, the 20-something Pradip has received a job offer from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). Similar is the story of Soma Kumar of Banka, daughter of a bus driver, who had never dreamt of joining a multi-national firm after graduation.

Fifteen more youths from this east Bihar district, around 250 km east of Patna, have bagged jobs with the TCS after successfully completing the Special Employability Bridge programme conducted there in December in which they were trained about the skills required to be part of the corporate world.

After the 25-day training, candidates underwent several levels of tests after which 17 youths bagged jobs. This is a non-technical post and those selected would undergo induction soon.

Fifty youths took part in the TCS programme and 33 cleared the written test. “All these youths who underwent TCS bridge programme had obtained training under the Kushal Yuva Programme, being run by the district registration and counselling centre (DRCC) under the Mukhya Mantri Saat Nishchay Yojana of the state government,” Banka district magistrate (DM) Kundan Kumar said on Wednesday.

The TCS training programme was conducted as part of the district administration’s Unnayan Banka initiative. The DM said the aim is to provide quality education and employment to weaker youths so that they realise their dreams by themselves.

Sharing his personal experience and success achieved by the trainees, Kundan said: “The training programme did wonders and trainees got confidence about facing the rigour of various levels of tests – both written and oral – that were taken before final selection.”

Encouraged by the performance in the first batch, TCS has decided to conduct similar training programmes for a fresh batch of Banka youths from January 18. “This time TCS has decided to conduct training programme for commerce graduates,” Kunsan said. “Fifty who have registered with DRCC under the Mukhya Mantri Saat Nishchay Yojana’s Kushal Yuva programme will take part in the programme.”
